The Toruń edition of Field-a-Team, TrackAthletes’ fan engagement competition, is now open and will run alongside the 2026 World Indoor Championships.

Participants (called players) select the athletes who they think will win the medals across each of ten events (heptathlon, pentathlon and men's and women's 60m, 3000m, high jump, shotput).

Selected individuals will score points if they finish in the top 6, making it more like a fantasy competition than a prediction competition. Unlike traditional fantasy competitions, there are no restrictions on the total ‘value’ of athletes you can select.

Personal bests, season's bests, world ranking and, where relevant, previous accomplishments are listed for each athlete, making it easier to give educated guesses.

Athletics fans from anywhere in the world can take part. The winner will be the player whose team has accumulated the most points. There will be no prizes, except for the honour of being a TrackAthletes Field-a-Team winner!

More than 200 players signed up for Field-a-Team: Tokyo, which ran alongside the 2025 World Championships. The leagues feature – where players can play alongside their friends, family or clubmates – was a popular addition for Field-a-Team: Lagoa, the first cross country edition of the game.

Players have until 8:55am on Friday 20th March, to enter and update their team. The championships, which will be shown in Ireland on Virgin Media, will get underway 10 minutes later with Men's Heptathlon 60m heats.

Getting started

To take part in Field-a-Team: Toruń, simply predict the top 3 in ten events (men’s and women’s 60m, 3000m, multi events, shot put and high jump).

Use your TrackAthletes account to enter your team. This allows you to change your team, track your progress and view your final result. Accounts are free to set up, and the same account will give you access to the main TrackAthletes site. If you already have an account, you do not need to sign up for a new one.

Scoring

The following scoring system will be applied:

  • Each athlete selected will earn the player one point if they finish in the top 6 in the event.
  • An additional 3 points will be awarded for each selected athlete who wins a medal.
  • An additional 5 points will be awarded if an athlete wins the medal colour predicted.

For example, if somebody selects Jackob Ingebrigtsen (gold), Kenenisa Bekele (silver) and Haile Gebreselassie (bronze) for the men's 3000m, and Ingebrigtsen wins, Bekele finishes third and Gebreselassie finishes fifth, that player would score 14 points (1 + 3 + 5 for Ingebrigtsen; 1 + 3 for Bekele and 1 for Gebreselassie).

This is a hypothetical example, since none of the above athletes will compete in Toruń.

Selecting and changing your team

You will be presented with a list of entries for each of the events from which you can choose. We will attempt to remove withdrawn athletes and add announced replacements up to the closing date, and changes in the ‘live updates’ section of the Field-a-Team dashboard.

However, it is the player’s responsibility to ensure that their selected athletes are competing. Players can make unlimited changes to their team, right up until the final deadline.

Leaderboard and prizes

Every effort will be made to score the events and update the leaderboard as soon as possible after each race. The leaderboard will be displayed on the Fantasy dashboard. The player whose ‘team’ has amassed the most points will be declared the winner.

In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided based on the player who has correctly selected the most gold medallists. If players still can't be separated, we'll move to silver medallists, and then, if needed, to bronze.

Entry into this contest is free.
