TRACKATHLETES: NEW WEBSITE MAKING LIFE EASIER FOR ATHLETES AND FANS

The aim of TrackAthletes.ie, a dynamic website for Irish athletics fans, is simple: to make following the sport easier.

The site combines information about individual athletes, livestream and results links for upcoming meetings, and the data story behind athletes’ journeys to major championships. A key feature of the site is the ability for users to add athletes to their Watchlist, and be notified when they are competing and how they can watch.

TrackAthletes, the ultimate hub for information about Ireland's top athletes, is brought to you by athletes, athletics fans and data enthusiasts Louise Shanahan and Elizabeth Egan.

Shanahan, a 2021 Olympian and former Irish 800m record holder, has spent the time since finishing her quantum physics PhD, upskilling her coding and building the site.

She explains the motivation for developing TrackAthletes: “I have seen first-hand how difficult it can be to follow athletics meetings. I have regularly finished races to find texts from my coach, family or friends asking how the race went because they couldn’t work out how to watch it.

“The Europeans and Olympics in 2024 showed the potential for a huge athletics fanbase: from little girls with bows in their hair to the people who remember going to school with one of the athletes. TrackAthletes aims to lower the barrier to following individual athletes and make the sport readily accessible to both diehard and casual fans.”

Egan, who provides lifestyle and personal development support to high-performance sportspeople, adds “As the indoor season kicks into action, we’re delighted to play our part in growing the sport that we both deeply care about.

“While the World Championships in September will be the main focus, Irish athletes will compete in several other international Championships in 2025 as well as hundreds of tour events across Europe and beyond; TrackAthletes will ensure that you don’t miss any of the excitement.”

Thanks to the simple-to-use TrackAthletes interface, keen athletics fans will be able to watch random meets almost every evening of the week; those who have little active interest in athletics, but who are from the same town as an athlete, can keep up to date with their achievements; and athletes will never have to deal with family requests for livestream links when they’re in the callroom again.
