Irish Athletes in the NCAA

Dozens of Irish athletes compete within the American collegiate system, the most competitive university sports system in the world. While most of these athletes - particularly those competing at an international level - compete for NCAA Division 1 and Division 2 schools, some also compete for Division 3 schools, NAIA schools and NJCAA junior colleges.

Each division and organisation has a different competition structure, but, broadly speaking, cross country takes place in the autumn, indoors from January to March, and outdoors from early April to late May (Division 2 and Division 3) or early June (Division 1).

With so many Irish athletes competing for many different universities in many different conferences and divisions, it can be difficult keeping track of who is competing where and when. To make that a bit easier, we've collated a list of all the athletes we're aware of studying at Division 1 and Division 2 schools in the tables below. Over time, we'll add further information and write some articles to further explain the NCAA system.

Please note that some of the athletes below may have red-shirted (taken a year out of competing in the NCAA competitions to protect their limited eligibility) or may have graduated partway through the the current academic year.  Some are also in the process of transferring to another school. Please let us know of any errors you spot or any athletes that we've missed.
